eBay has announced the acquisition of Certilogo, the digital ID and authentication platform for clothing brands, at an undisclosed sum.
Driven by AI, Certilogo is designed to help brands to manage the lifecycle of their garments while giving consumers a means of confirming the authenticity of branded items.
The acquisition further boosts eBay’s reputation as a “trusted destination” for pre-loved apparel and fashion and represents a key investment into its growing pre-loved fashion category, the company said.
eBay vice president Charis Marquez said the acquisition reflects its continuing commitment to using technology to “empower” its buyers and sellers.
"Certilogo's technology and talented team allows eBay to build on this commitment, establishing eBay as a leader in pre-loved fashion, and offering new ways for consumers to connect and engage with brands,” she said.
“By joining forces, we will be able to make an immediate and significant contribution, taking advantage of already consolidated skills and infrastructures, promoting a model that has its foundation in community and circularity,” said Certilogo chief executive and founder Michele Casucci.
This latest acquisition follows eBay’s launch of a hub for “pre-loved” furniture which the company said will showcase vintage, refurbished or repaired items.
eBay also recently acquired AI-based marketplace for compliance technology 3PM Shield, which helps prevent the sale of fake items, unsafe products and illegal goods.
